Us, the most fleeting of all
for Clare Hammond
“But because truly being here is so much;
because everything here
apparently needs us, this fleeting world, which in some strange way
keeps calling to us. Us, the most fleeting of all.
Once for each thing. Just once; no more. And we too,
just once. And never again. But to have been
this once, completely, even if only once:
to have been one with the earth, seems beyond undoing.”
Rilke, “Ninth Duino Elegy”
"Us, the most fleeting of all" is a reflective piece of time.
It captures our fleeting yet essential nature as Rilke contemplates the unique and unrepeatable moments that make up the fabric of existence.
Designed to be experienced "in its entirety, even if only once,"
I want this piece to celebrate the ephemeral beauty of life and time.
